Eating in Kazakhstan 

Kazakhstan food is well-known all over the world. The staples of the Kazakh diet, and the diets of most of the traditionally nomadic people in Central Asia are boiled mutton and tea mixed with sheep or horse milk. Kazakhs are very fond of horsemeat and horse sausage.

Chak-Chak

It is a fried dough covered with honey, sometimes with dried fruit and nuts.

Kumiss

It is a fermented dairy product made from mare’s milk with slightly sour taste with a small percentage of alcohol.

This dish is made with either horse meat or mutton, beef is sometimes used. It is almost always served on a large platter to be enjoyed by guests on a Darsakstan

Shashlik

Shashlik is a common dish in Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kirgystan, Georgia). It consists of meat cubes skewered with some vegetables cooked over an open fire or a bed of coals.

It is similar to western cottage cheese and commonly used in a variety of baked goods as well as eaten plain or with and berries.

Manti

Its filling is normally ground lamb (sometimes beef or horse meat), spiced with black pepper, squash and served topped with butter, sour cream or an onion sauce or garlic sauce.

Plov

Plov is a dish in which rice is cooked in a seasoned broth. Cooked onion, other vegetables, as well as a mix of spices, may be added. It may also contain meat, fish, vegetables, and dried fruit.

Puff Samsa

It often baked in the tandoor and resemble buns stuffed with beef or lamb and vegetables.

Shuba Salad

It consists of layered potato, herring, carrots, beets, lots of mayonnaise and grated egg, especially popular during New Year celebrations.

Pelmeni

It like a dumpling, the dough is made from flour and water, sometimes adding a small portion of eggs. The filling can be minced meat (pork, lamb, beef, or any other kind of meat), or fish.

Kuurdak

In Kazakh cuisine, Kuurdak is made from mutton and its liver, kidney, heart, lungs and onion, it can be made using beef or any other kind of meat except pork. It is described as “stewed brown meat”.

Laghman

Laghman is a Central Asian noodle dish. Like ramen, it was inspired by China's lamian (literally "pulled noodles"), usually begins with beef or lamb and it can be served wet or dry.

Kazy

Kazy is a sausage-like food made of horse meat and fat, with the addition of spices – black pepper, garlic, zira and others, all these being packed in horse intestines. Usually, kazy is made of the fat meat from the ribs.
